The Prayer Behind One Who Calls for Aid from Graves
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 9336 ):
Q1: If a man is the imam of a mosque and he calls for aid from the graves, saying: "These are the graves of people who are awliya (close friends of Allah), and we call for aid from them for the sake of intercession between us and Allah," is it permissible for me to pray behind him, given that I am a person who calls to tawhid (the oneness of Allah)? I ask you to clarify for me in detail the topics of vows, calling for aid, and tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah through a means).
A1 : If it is established for you that he calls for aid from the people of the graves or makes vows to them, then it is not valid for you to pray behind him; because he is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah), and the mushrik’s imamate is not valid, nor is his prayer, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to pray behind him; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-An'am 6:88] and His saying, Mighty and Majestic: [Az-Zumar 39:65-66] . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

But if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.
(65) And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah, your work would surely become worthless, and you would surely be among the losers." (66) Rather, worship [only] Allah and be among the grateful.
