The hadith of the blind man who sought the help of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after his death

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 9582 ):
Q: There is a strong attack on the Salafis, claiming that they are deniers and do not love the awliya (close friends of Allah). Among the evidence they cited for the permissibility of seeking help from the dead is
The questioner: Is calling upon the dead for aid permissible? There is the hadith of the blind man who called upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after his death, and I have learned that this hadith is authentic, which causes great confusion for some people, so I hope you will inform us about this important matter?

A: After the Committee studied the question, it answered that the hadith of the blind man was narrated by the Imam al-Tirmidhi through his chain from Uthman ibn Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him):
A man who was blind in his eyes came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Supplicate to Allah to cure me." He said: "If you wish, I will supplicate, and if you wish, be patient, for that is better for you." He said: "Then supplicate." So he ordered him to perform wudu' and to make it well, and to supplicate with this supplication: "O Allah, I ask You and turn to You by Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. I have turned to my Lord by him in this need of mine, so fulfill it for me. O Allah, make him an intercessor for me."
, and al-Tirmidhi said: "This is a good, authentic, strange hadith; we do not know it except from this route in the hadith of Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi ." And the hadith, assuming its authenticity, does not contain the blind man calling upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but rather it contains calling upon Allah the Exalted by directing oneself to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during his lifetime, just as he called upon Allah the Exalted to have the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intercede for him so that his need would be fulfilled. And there is nothing in the hadith indicating the permissibility of calling upon the dead, and
Abu al-Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) spoke well about this hadith and clarified its meaning in his book [A Glorious Principle in Seeking Nearness and Means]. Refer to it to benefit more. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
