Fatwa number ( 8689 ):
Q: Regarding the authenticity of the following hadith: It is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Whoever is negligent in prayer, Allah will punish him with fifteen punishments, six of which are in this world, three at the time of death, three in the grave, and three when he comes out of the grave, As for the six that befall him in this world, they are as follows: 1 - Allah removes the blessing from his life. 2 - Allah wipes the mark of the righteous from his face. 3 - No deed of his is rewarded by Allah.
4 - His supplication is not raised to the heavens. 5 - The creation despise him in this world. 6 - He has no share in the supplications of the righteous. As for the three that befall him at the time of death: 1 - He dies in a state of humiliation. 2 - He dies hungry. 3 - He dies thirsty, and even if he were given the waters of the seas of this world to drink, it would not quench his thirst. As for the three that befall him in his grave: 1 - Allah constricts his grave and squeezes him until his ribs are crushed. 2 - Allah kindles a fire in his grave with its embers. 3 - Allah sends upon him a snake called al-Shuja' al-Aqra', which strikes him for neglecting the Fajr prayer from Fajr to Dhuhr, and for neglecting the Dhuhr prayer from Dhuhr to 'Asr, and so on... Every time it strikes him, he sinks into the earth seventy cubits. As for the three that befall him on the Day of Resurrection: 1 - Allah sends upon him one who drags him into the Fire of Hell on his face with embers.
2 - Allah the Exalted looks at him with an eye of anger at the time of the Reckoning, and the flesh of his face falls off. 3 - Allah Mighty and Majestic reckons him with a severe reckoning, with no supporter for him, and Allah orders him to the Fire, and what an evil destination it is).
A: This hadith is invalid. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in [Al-Lisan]: It is a fabrication by Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Abbas al-Baghdadi al-Attar , who claimed that Abu Bakr ibn Ziyad al-Nisaburi took it from al-Rabi' from al-Shafi'i from Malik from Sami from Abu Salih from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who attributed it to the Prophet: (Whoever is negligent in his prayer, Allah will punish him with fifteen characteristics... ) the hadith, and its invalidity is apparent; it is from the hadiths of the Sufi paths. And so said al-Dhahabi in [Al-Mizan]. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
