A4: The books of hadith are those that collect the hadiths of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), such as [Sahih al-Bukhari ] and [Sahih Muslim ] and [Sunan Abu Dawud ] and [Sunan al-Nasa'i ] and [Musnad al-Imam Ahmad ] and [Muwatta Malik ] and the like. The text of a hadith is the saying, action, or approval of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The principles of hadith are what is studied to distinguish the authentic and good hadith from the weak and fabricated hadith, and to clarify their grades. It is also called the terminology of hadith. Among its books are: [Mukhtasar Ibn al-Salah], [Alfiyyat al-Iraqi], [al-Taqrib] by al-Nawawi and [Nukhbat al-Fikr] by Ibn Hajar ... etc. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
