The ruling on listening to the Qur'an from the radio

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The ninth question of Fatwa No. ( 189 ):
Q9: Whatis the ruling on listening to the Qur'an broadcast on the radio?
A9: The radio: is a device that has no ruling in itself; rather, the ruling applies to what is broadcast through it. If the radio broadcasts the Qur'an, or an explanation of the truth regarding the laws of Allah, or sermons that soften the hearts, or fair political news that allows people to know the conditions of the people and the country, so that they are aware of their affairs and what is intended for them, and so that they may adopt a sound and successful stance toward those who ally with them and those who oppose them, or if it broadcasts commercial news that allows people to know what benefits them in their lives and livelihoods, or other such benefits, then listening is good, and it may sometimes be obligatory. If, however, it broadcasts lewd singing containing effeminacy or frivolity, or if it broadcasts false and violent political news whose purpose is to conceal the truth and deceive people, and whose substance is nonsense for the sake of absurdity, stirring emotions through lies, sin, and slander, or similar vices, then what is broadcast is invalid, and it is not befitting for Muslims to remain silent about it or to listen to it, except if the one listening to the false news, biased opinions, or deviant statements is someone who has awareness and a role in the community, so that they may expose its falsehood and clarify its foreign elements, to protect the community from its harm and to safeguard those who are at risk of being deceived by its embellishments. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
They have awareness and a role in the community; so that they may expose its falsifications and clarify its foreign elements, protecting the community from its harm and safeguarding those who are at risk of being deceived by its adornment. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
