The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 7717 ):

Q4: Is it permissible for me to say to a police officer or a member of the armed forces: "Yes, sir"?
A4: It is permissible for you to say to him: "Yes," but it is not permissible for you to say to him: "Ya Sayyidi" (My Master); because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when some of the Companions said to him: "You are our master," he said:
The lord is Allah, the Blessed and Exaltedالسيد الله تبارك وتعالى
Sunan Abi Dawud 4806Sahih (Al-Albani)
Narrated by Abu Dawud with a sound chain. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
