The Permissibility of the Food of the People of the Book

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

Fatwa No. ( 3262 ):

Q1: Some of my study colleagues who are the Christians invite me to their homes to eat. Is it permissible for me to eat from their food if it is established that it is lawful in itself according to the Shari'ah?
A1: Yes, it is permissible for you to eat from the food that your Christian colleague offers you, whether that is in his home or elsewhere, provided that it is established for you that this food is not forbidden in itself or its status is unknown; because the original ruling in this matter is permissibility until evidence indicates prohibition, and the fact that he is a Christian does not prevent this; because Allah the Exalted has made permissible for us the food of the People of the Book.
