Apostasy of one who abandons the practical pillars of Islam

The first question of Fatwa No. ( 1727 ):
Q1: A man says: "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," but he does not perform the four pillars: prayer, zakah, fasting, and Hajj, nor does he perform the other deeds required in the Islamic Shari'ah. Does this man deserve the intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Day of Resurrection, such that he does not enter the Fire, even for a limited time?
A1: One who says: "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," and abandons prayer, zakah, and Hajj, denying the obligation of these four pillars or one of them after the message has been conveyed, is an apostate from Islam. He is to be given the opportunity to repent; if he repents, his repentance is accepted, and he becomes worthy of intercession on the Day of Resurrection if he dies upon faith. If he persists in his denial, the one in authority must kill him for his disbelief and apostasy, and he has no share in the intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or anyone else on the Day of Resurrection. If he abandons prayer alone out of laziness and lethargy, he is a disbeliever whose disbelief takes him out of the fold of Islam, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions. How much more so if he combines the abandonment of prayer with the abandonment of zakah, fasting, and Hajj to the House of Allah the Sacred? Accordingly, if he dies in that state, he is not worthy of the intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or anyone else. And those scholars who say that he is a disbeliever by practical disbelief that does not take him out of the fold of Islam by his abandonment
of these pillars consider him worthy of intercession in that case, even though he is committing what is among the major sins, if he dies a believer. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
