Going to the Church for the Treatment of Epilepsy
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 8122 ):
Q3: The treatment for epilepsy in Egypt is going to the church, specifically the Church of St. George, or going to the sorcerers and fortune-tellers who are widespread in the villages, and sometimes it yields a benefit. Is this permissible to do? Knowing that if the epileptic person is not treated quickly, he will perish and die. Then what is the treatment that Allah has prescribed for this ailment, since every ailment has a cure except old age? We ask for detail in the answer regarding the treatment.
A3: It is not permissible to go to the church for the treatment of epilepsy, nor to the sorcerers, nor to the fortune-tellers. As for the permissible methods of treatment, one is treated with the prescribed ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation), such as reciting
the Qur'an; like Surat al-Fatihah, "Say, He is Allah, the One," the two chapters of protection (al-Mu'awwidhatayn), and the Verse of the Throne, and the dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and supplications established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
