The Ruling on Reciting over One Who Has Epilepsy

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We hear these days that people treat epilepsy, magic, the evil eye, and other ailments with the Qur'an. Is there anything wrong with treating epilepsy through ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation)?

Answer:
The Qur'an is a healing, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: (And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers). It is a cure for physical ailments and spiritual ailments, a healing for the bodies and a healing for the hearts. Ruqyah with it is permissible and prescribed, because it is one of the means of treatment. However, making ruqyah a profession by which one earns a living and drains the money of people, this is not permissible and should not be done. Likewise, it is not permissible for someone who does not know how to perform it, or whose creed is bad, to engage in ruqyah, but only out of greed for money.
