The eleventh question of Fatwa No. ( 4091 ):
Q11: What is your view, may Allah preserve you as a support for the Muslim community, regarding closing schools and shops, or delivering sermons, lectures, and admonitions, and the like, as is the case with us in Africa on the occasion of the noble Mawlid?
A11: Celebrating Mawlid and closing for its sake is a religious innovation; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do it, nor did his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718a . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
