Fatwa number ( 5723 ):
Q: We request information regarding the correct date of the birth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We have planned to hold Qur'anic competitions, slaughter a sheep, and deliver lectures about the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) on this occasion. Please guide us on whether this program is permissible according to the Shari'ah?
A: First: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was born in the Year of the Elephant in Rabi' al-Awwal, as mentioned by Muhammad ibn Ishaq and the scholars of biographies in their books of biography. Second: It is a forbidden religious innovation to hold a celebration on the night of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) birth, to hold Qur'anic competitions, slaughter sheep, and deliver lectures about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on this occasion; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) knew the value of himself and what he deserved to be honored with better than anyone, and he knew the Shari'ah of Allah the Exalted better than anyone, and it is not established that he celebrated his own birth, nor the birth of any of his predecessors among the prophets (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon them all), nor the birth of any of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). And it is established that he said:Sahih Muslim 1718a , and in another narration: Sahih Muslim 1718b . And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.

من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
