The first question of Fatwa No. ( 9608 ):
Q1: Some of my colleagues say: that innovations are divided into two categories : the first: good, meaning: it is permissible to act upon it, and the second: not good. And I believe that this division is incorrect, based on the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam) What do the noble jurists and the imams of Islam say about this issue in light of the Book and the Sunnah?
A1: This interpretation is incorrect, as you mentioned; due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 867a And the hadith was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and there are other hadiths in this chapter that indicate this meaning. We advise you to review the book [Al-Bida' wa al-Hawadith] by al-Tabartusi , and the book [Al-Bida' wa al-Nahy 'Anha] by Ibn Wadhih, and [Tanbih al-Ghafilin] by Ibn al-Nahhas, and [Al-Ibtida' fi Mudharri al-Ibtida'] by the Shaykh Ali Mahfuz,
and the book [Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim Mukhalafat Ahl al-Jahim] by the Shaykh of Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, and [Zad al-Ma'ad fi Hady Khayr al-'Ibad] by the Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on them all). And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
