The Barelviyyah

Fatwa number ( 3090 ):
Q: A specific group in Pakistan called the Barelviyyah or the Nauri group, named after their current leader known as Nauri , has asked you for the Islamic ruling regarding them, their beliefs, and praying behind them so that it may be a comfort and peace for many hearts that do not know the truth. Once again, I remind you of some of their common myths and beliefs: 1 - The belief that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is alive. 2 - The belief that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is present and observing, especially immediately after the Friday prayer. 3 - The belief that the Messenger (may the best of prayers and peace be upon him) is the intercessor in advance. 4 - They believe in the awliya (close friends of Allah) and the people of the graves, and they pray at their graves asking them to fulfill their needs. 5 - Building domes and lighting up the graves. 6 - Their famous saying: O Messenger, O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
7 - They become angry with anyone who says "Ameen" aloud and raises his hands in prayer, and they consider him a Wahhabi. 8 - They are greatly surprised by the use of the miswak during prayer. 9 - They kiss their fingers during wudu, the adhan, and after prayer. 10 - Their imam constantly recites after the prayer... the verse:
Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ
[Al-Ahzab 33:56]
, and consequently, all the ma'mum (those praying behind the imam) send blessings upon the Prophet collectively in a loud voice. 11 - They form circles after the Friday prayer, standing, and they sing and praise loudly. 12 - After completing the recitation of the Qur'an in the tarawih prayers of Ramadan, they cook a large amount of food and distribute it in the mosque courtyard, in addition to sweets. 13 - They build mosques and pay great attention to their decoration, and they write above the mihrab: O Muhammad. 14 - They consider themselves to be the people of the Sunnah and the correct creed, and that others are in error. 15 - What is the Islamic ruling on praying behind them?
Knowing that I am a medical student in Karachi and I live next to the mosque, and the group that controls or oversees it is that Barelvi group .

A: If he has these characteristics, it is not permissible to pray behind him, and the prayer is not valid even if you do so while knowing his state; because most of these are characteristics of disbelief and religious innovation that contradict the tawhid (the oneness of Allah) for which Allah sent His messengers and sent down His books, and they conflict with the explicit text of the Qur'an, such as His saying, the Exalted:
Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die.إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ مَيِّتُونَ
[Az-Zumar 39:30]
, and His saying:
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.وَأَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا
[Al-Jinn 72:18]
. He should refute the innovations they practice in a good manner; if they accept, praise be to Allah, and if they do not accept, he should boycott them and pray in the mosques of the people of the Sunnah. He has a good example in the Beloved of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his saying:
And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy."وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَأَدْعُو رَبِّي عَسَى أَلا أَكُونَ بِدُعَاءِ رَبِّي شَقِيًّا
[Maryam 19:48]
. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
