Praying in a mosque that contains a grave and using it as a place for charity and feeding
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 8705 ):
Q1: There is a mosque in my city in southern Tunisia, and in one of its corners there is a grave. This grave is inside a room by itself, meaning: the prayer is not performed inside this room, but people visit this grave every Friday night from
some of the families, and they bring some food and give it as charity inside this mosque. Is this permissible, and what is the ruling on praying in this mosque? I ask your Eminence to clarify everything you consider appropriate on this subject for the sake of benefit.
A1: First: It is not permissible to pray in any mosque that contains a grave; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited that and cursed those who took graves as mosques. Second: It is not permissible to take the mosque that contains the grave as a place for charity and feeding people; because that is a religious innovation and a means to seeking blessing from the person in the grave. If the charity is done to draw near to the person in the grave, then that becomes major shirk. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
