Exaggeration and Negligence in Religion

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 8946 ):
Q5: What is the limit that, if a person exceeds it in religion, it is considered exaggeration? What is the definition of exaggeration? And likewise, what is the limit of negligence in religion?
A5: The limit that, if exceeded in religion, is considered exaggeration is going beyond what is prescribed. Exaggeration is: delving too deeply into a matter and straining oneself in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade exaggeration and said:
beware of exaggeration in religious matters for those who came before you were doomed because of exaggeration in religious mattersإياكم والغلو في الدين فإنما أهلك من كان قبلكم الغلو في الدين
Sunan Ibn Majah 3029Sahih (Darussalam)
It was narrated by Ahmad and others with a sound chain. As for negligence, it is falling short in fulfilling what Allah has made obligatory; such as committing some sins, like zina, backbiting, or talebearing, or leaving off some obligatory duties, like dutifulness to parents, maintaining family ties, returning the greeting, and the like. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
