Speaking about excess in religion, and among it, excess regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: This, my master, is due to the Muslims' failure to submit to the rulings of the Lord of the Worlds and the hadiths of His noble Messenger, and their surrender to their desires. Our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) says:
O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth.
[An-Nisa 4:171]
, and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), as it came in authentic hadith during the Farewell Pilgrimage, asked Abdullah ibn Abbas to pick up pebbles for him, and he said to him:
Like the pebbles of the stoning
, and on that occasion he said:
Beware of excess in religion; for indeed, those before you were destroyed by their excess in their religion
. Imagine that the Messenger (peace be upon him) was cautious about not committing excess, or in combating excess, even in the stoning of the pillars; meaning, it is as if he is saying:
Do not commit excess
, and you say: No, I want to take a big stone so I can break the eye of Satan, whereas we see today... the ignorant person with the large stones, you find the large stones piled up there at the pillars, as if he said to them: You have committed excess!! And he says:
Beware of excess in religion; for indeed, those before you were destroyed by their excess in their religion
. So you find the Muslims—except as Allah wills—in this age drawing near to Allah through excess in religion. I wish they were just following their desires, but no, they are drawing near to Allah with this desire and this excess in religion. They elevate the Messenger (peace be upon him) to the rank of the deity and the Creator (Glorified and Exalted is He) out of love for him, but love is not supposed to be like that; this is most like what the common people among us say: "He who loves too much bites," he who loves the Messenger (peace be upon him) too much disturbs him... My question is, what do you say, he tells you:
Do not extol me as the Christians extolled [Jesus] the son of Mary. I am merely a servant,’ so say: '[He is] Allah’s servant and His Messenger.’
Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 329Sahih (Zubair `Aliza'i)
.
They are not satisfied with this unless they address him with his saying:
For from your generosity is the world and its harm *** And from your knowledge is the knowledge of the Tablet and the Pen
This is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as in "Sahih al-Bukhari," who passed by a slave girl of the Ansar who was singing, and among what she was saying in her song was: "And among us is a Prophet who knows what is in tomorrow." She did not say: "And from your knowledge is the knowledge of the Tablet and the Pen," but rather: "And among us is a Prophet who knows what is in tomorrow." He said:
No one knows the unseen except Allah; leave this, and say what you were saying
. There is no objection to that, so what does the Muslim say when he hears people today drawing near to Allah and seeking blessing from the water upon which those breaths polluted by shirk (associating partners with Allah) have fallen, treating themselves with... Do you have anything else? We have some.

The questioner: He is present.

The Shaykh: So how would the Muslim say, or what would the Muslim think, if the Messenger had heard this speech: "And from your knowledge is the knowledge of the Tablet and the Pen"? Do you think he would address this person with at least what he addressed the young slave girl with? More and more, but people do not know.

Another questioner: Professor...

The Shaykh: Go ahead.

Another questioner: The Children of Israel asked Musa to bring forth from the earth... and he said:
He said: Will you exchange
.

The Shaykh :
That which is lower for that which is better
.

Another questioner: Yes, so what is the meaning of "lower" here...?

The Shaykh: I mean, of less value, less beneficial, less nutritious, and so on. I mean, what is the status of garlic and onions compared to manna and salwa? Which is better and which is tastier, and so on?
Yes?
...

Another questioner : ... .

The Shaykh: Of course, yes, of course.

The questioner: Is there a hadith, Professor?

The Shaykh: Yes, there is,
Whoever eats from this detestable tree, let him not approach our place of prayer; for the angels are pained by what the children of Adam are pained by.
