The name of the father of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 4804 ):
Q6: Is Abu Ibrahīm al-Khalīl (peace be upon him) ( Āzār ) or (Āzār) as they say: a past tense verb meaning: sin took him by his opposition to Ibrahīm al-Khalīl, or as they say: derived from (al-wizr)? Which is more correct?
A6: ( Azar ) is a foreign name for the father of Ibrahim al-Khalil (peace and blessings be upon him) according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions. It is a substitute for his father or an explanatory apposition to him, and it is not a past tense verb derived from al-wizr. For the past tense of al-wizr is "wazara," a triliteral verb meaning he sinned and he bore, and Azar has four letters. And Azar is not the name of an idol that the people of Ibrahim and his father worshipped; because this contradicts the context of Ibrahim's (peace be upon him) address to his father, and the pluralization of the idols in the verse itself, and the detailed enumeration of their objects of worship afterwards, namely the star, the moon, and the sun. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
