Fatwa number ( 7635 ):
Q: Some young men here swear oaths using the following words: "Glory to the One whose eye does not sleep." Is this oath permissible or not? These people attribute the quality of sleep to the eye of the Creator (Mighty and Majestic), and He (Glorified and Exalted is He) has not informed us of this. What is mentioned in the Qur'an is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:255]?
A: Saying: "Glory be to Allah, the One whose eye does not sleep" or "By Allah, the One whose eye does not sleep" is permissible, for it is a description of perfection. It has been mentioned in the Noble Qur'an:, and He, Glorified and Exalted is He, is not overtaken by drowsiness or sleep, as explicitly stated in the Qur'an. It has also come in the authentic Sunnah that He does not sleep, and it is not befitting for Him to sleep. It should be known that this phrase, "Glory be to the One whose eye does not sleep," is not an oath. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
