She swore that her mother would not sleep in her bed

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16704 )
Q: My wife and my children have been living in Egypt for a year since they left the Kingdom. My wife invited her mother—my mother-in-law—to stay in my home, because the latter lives alone as her only son is outside Egypt . I learned from my wife that her mother sleeps in my bed next to my wife, despite our house being spacious. And due to differences between me and my mother-in-law, I asked my wife not to let her mother sleep in my bed, but my wife seemed hesitant about that. So I swore at her in a fit of anger with the following oath: (It is forbidden to me if you let her sleep in my bed) . Finally, two weeks ago, my mother-in-law was visiting our home—she is currently staying with her son who is on leave in Egypt —and she entered my bedroom and slept in my bed without knowing about the oath I made, and without my wife knowing
about it either—about her sleeping there. When my wife missed her mother for a period not exceeding five minutes, she looked for her and found her sleeping in my bed. So I hurried to her and informed her of the oath I had sworn and asked her to leave the bed. The problem now is: Did the divorce and prohibition take place? Even though my wife did not know about her mother sleeping there, and as soon as she became aware of it, she asked her to leave the bed? And what if my wife had let her sleep, forgetting the oath, and when she remembered, she hurried to correct the mistake? I ask your Eminence to inform me in writing so that I can send the fatwa to my wife.

A: If the matter is as you mentioned and your wife did not enable her mother to sleep in your bed, then there is nothing upon you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
