The questioner : A questioner says: “O honorable Shaykh, I am a woman with children. For the past three years, I have not been praying or fasting. Now Allah has guided me, and praise be to Allah. I am praying and fasting, calling upon my Lord, and seeking His forgiveness for what I missed due to ignorance. I ask you to issue a ruling on what I have missed: what is required of me? Is there an expiation along with seeking forgiveness, or what should I do?”
The Shaykh : Yes. She has nothing to do but repent, and she has repented, praise be to Allah. She does not have to make up the prayers that were missed. She does not have to make up the fasts that were missed. However, she must pay the zakah. If she does not pay it, there is no blame on her, because when she left off prayer, she became, may Allah protect us from that, an apostate among the disbelievers. Now Allah has guided her to Islam, so she is a Muslim, praise be to Allah.
