The questioner : He says:The questioner : My mother is an elderly woman whose eyesight has weakened. Is it permissible for her to wear the niqab during Hajj and place a light covering over her eye so that she can see?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for her to do that, due to the generality of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibition of the niqab for women. However, she may cover her face. If she cannot see, she should hold the hand of her daughter, her sister, or someone similar. As for permitting a woman what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited, that is not allowed. Yes.
