The first question of Fatwa No. ( 5179 ):
Q1: Is the Ascension of the Infallible (peace and blessings be upon him) established by the text of the Noble Qur'an?
A1: A text in the Qur'an indicates that our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was ascended to the seventh heaven on the night of the Isra from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque , and that he saw Jibril (peace and blessings be upon them both) at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, where there is the Garden of Refuge. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Najm 53:12-18], and the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary and the Garden of Refuge are in the seventh heaven. The authentic hadiths have explained the story of the Isra and the Ascension mentioned in the Qur'an and detailed their particulars, fulfilling the saying of Allah the Exalted: [An-Nahl 16:44]. So refer to them in the authentic collections of al-Bukhari and Muslim and other books of the Sunnah if you wish for detail and further clarification. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Allah the Exalted said:
(12) So will you dispute with him over what he saw? (13) And he certainly saw him in another descent (14) At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - (15) Near it is the Garden of Refuge - (16) When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. (17) The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. (18) He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.
And We revealed to you the message that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought.
