The Shaykh :"And likewise the Ascension of the Messenger to Him is a *** right that is established, in which there is no denial"
The Ascension of the Messenger to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, took place on the Night of the Night Journey. It was in Rabi' al-Awwal, according to the well-known view, approximately three years before the Migration. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was ascended to the seven heavens with his body and his soul. He was ascended with both his body and his soul, not with his soul alone. If it had been with his soul alone, the Quraysh would not have denied it, for dreams are not denied. But he was ascended with his body and his soul. First, he was taken from the Sacred Mosque, from the Hajar al-Aswad, which is al-Hatim. He was taken from there on al-Buraq, in the company of Jibril (peace be upon them both). Al-Buraq is a creature lower than a mule and higher than a donkey, a wondrous beast. It places its foot at the limit of its vision; its step is as far as its gaze reaches, and its vision is strong, without doubt, meaning it flies. Therefore, it reached the House of the Sacred Sanctuary (Bayt al-Maqdis), and he prayed with the Prophets (peace and blessings be upon them). Then Jibril ascended him to the heavens. Glory be to Allah, in one night, companions, immense distances that no one knows except Allah. And this was in one night. Jibril would ask, "Who is with you?" and he would be told, "Has he been sent to you?" If he was informed of who was with him, he would say, "Yes." He passed by the Prophets, the angels, and the Messengers in every heaven until he reached the seventh heaven, to the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha), where he heard the creaking of the pens. These are the pens that write down what happens in the day and the night. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this. He reached a place that no human has reached. He was ascended to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. The author says:
"And likewise the Ascension of the Messenger to Him is a *** right that is established"
By the evidence of the Book and the Sunnah. In Surat al-Isra, there is evidence of the Night Journey:
Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa سبحان الذي أسرى بعبده ليلا من المسجد الحرام إلى المسجد الأقصى
[Al-Isra 17:1]
And in the beginning of Surat al-Najm is the story of the Ascension:
(1) By the star when it descends, (2) Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, والنجم إذا هوى ما ضل صاحبكم وما غوى
[An-Najm 53:1-2]
up to the end, to his saying:
He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. لقد رأى من آيات ربه الكبرى
[An-Najm 53:18]
These verses are all about the Ascension.
