The second question of Fatwa No. ( 6959 ):
Q2: Is it permissible for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to forget, meaning does he forget or not?
A2: Yes, it is permissible for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to forget, but he is not left in a state of forgetfulness regarding matters of legislation; rather, Allah informs him of it, as in the authentic collections from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:Sahih Muslim 572a This was because he was distracted during the 'Asr prayer. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
