The second question of Fatwa No. ( 2229 ):
Q2: Does the shirk (associating partners with Allah) mentioned in the noble verse:[Al-Baqarah 2:221] include these Muslims who follow certain paths; such as the Tijaniyyah , and the Qadiriyyah and those who hang amulets from the Qur'an on their bodies and those who follow Islam but have pagan customs?
A2: The shirk mentioned in the verse includes those who seek aid from other than Allah, such as the jinn, the dead, and those absent from them, and those who hang amulets other than from the Qur'an hoping for their benefit and attributing healing to them and exaggerating in that, as it also includes those who have pagan customs like the customs of the people of the first pre-Islamic age of ignorance, such as drawing near to other than Allah by making vows to them, offering slaughtered animals and other sacrifices to them, supplicating to them, rubbing against them, and circumambulating their graves hoping for benefit or the removal of harm. Whoever does that is included in the general category of male and female polytheists in the verse. It is not permissible for us to marry our believing women to them until they believe with pure faith and repent from the mentioned shirky innovations and similar things that negate faith. It is not permissible for a believer to marry their women who are innovators of shirky innovations until they repent from them and abandon them. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
