The first question of fatwa number ( 4297 ):
Q1:Are there multiple paths in Islam, such as theShadhiliyyah, and theKhalwatiyyah, and other such paths? If these paths exist, what is the evidence for them? And what is the meaning of the statement of the Truth, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.
And upon Allah is the direction of the [right] way, and among the various paths are those deviating. And if He willed, He could have guided you all.
وَعَلَى اللَّهِ قَصْدُ السَّبِيلِ وَمِنْهَا جَائِرٌ وَلَوْ شَاءَ لَهَدَاكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَdrew a line for them and then said, “This is God’s path.” Thereafter he drew several lines on his right and left and said, “These are paths on each of which there is a devil who invites people to follow it.”
A1: There is nothing in Islam of the paths mentioned, nor of
their like. What exists in Islam is what the two verses and the hadith you mentioned indicate, and what his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) indicates:
The Jews split into seventy-one sects, and the Christians split into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah will split into seventy-three sects, all in the Fire except one. It was said: Who are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Those who are upon what I am upon today and my Companions.
There will not cease to be found among my people those who uphold what God commands, not being injured by those who desert or oppose them till God's affair comes about and finds them in that condition.
لا تزال طائفة من أمتي على الحق منصورة لا يضرهم من خذلهم ولا من خالفهم حتى يأتي أمر الله وهم على ذلكand do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way
