The greatest honor and dignity in belonging to Islam

The second question of Fatwa No. ( 5845 ):
Q2: Is it forbidden for a person or a believer to say, "I am a patriot"? Is it forbidden for a person to speak about foreign or domestic politics?
A2: The greatest honor, dignity, and high rank lie in belonging to Islam, supporting it, and striving in the path of exalting the word of Allah. So let the Muslim say, "I am a Muslim," for this is greater for his status and higher for his rank. Through Islam and the brotherhood therein, Allah unites the Muslims. Nationalist fervor is a tool of destruction and division for the Muslim community if its intent is to boast over his Muslim brothers who are not citizens. However, if the intent is merely to identify that he holds national citizenship
and not that of another state, then there is no harm in that. His Eminence the Grand President, Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Baz , wrote a letter on nationalism. Furthermore, speaking about the domestic and foreign politics of the Ummah is not forbidden as long as it achieves the benefit of Islam and Muslims, and does not stir up fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) that returns upon them with division, failure, disappointment, and collapse. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
