The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I went with a friend of mine for Hajj last year, and my friend died. Should I complete the Hajj on his behalf or not?

The Shaykh : How can he complete the Hajj while he is in the state of ihram for Hajj? In any case: if a person enters the state of ihram for Hajj and dies before completing it, then what remains is not made up on his behalf. The evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing at 'Arafah. — Listen to the story — he was standing at 'Arafah. So they came to him and said to him: O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so was riding his camel when it stumbled, and he fell off it and died. He said:
Wash him with water and sidr (lotus tree leaves). And shroud him in his two garments. And do not cover his head. And do not apply perfumes to him — meaning: do not put any fragrance on him — for he will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection in the state of talbiyah. اغسلوه بماء وسدر. وكفنوه في ثوبيه. ولا تغطوا رأسه. ولا تحنطوه - أي: لا تجعلوا فيه طيباً - فإنه يبعث يوم القيامة ملبياً
meaning he will come out of his grave saying: Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik (Here I am, O Allah, here I am). And he did not say: Complete it on his behalf. And because if we had completed it on his behalf, he would have missed this virtue, which is that he comes out in the state of ihram, because if we had completed it on his behalf, he would have exited the state of ihram. Therefore, if a person dies during the performance of the rites, nothing is made up on his behalf. And if he had not yet exited the state of ihram by the first exit, he is buried in his clothes. That is: in his izar (lower garment) and rida' (upper garment). And no new shroud is brought for him, so that he comes out of his grave saying: Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik. And this is analogous to the mujahid who is killed as a martyr, for he will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection with his wound still oozing blood, the color the color of blood and the scent the scent of musk. Allahu Akbar! Yes.
