What is meant by cursing the world in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : One of the brothers is asking about the meaning of the saying of the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him):
This world is cursed and what is in it is cursed, except the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) and what is conducive to that, or one who has knowledge or who acquires knowledge.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4112Hasan (Darussalam)
.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : What is meant by cursing the world?

The Shaykh : Cursing the world is not inherent to its nature, as indicated by the exception mentioned in the complete hadith:
Or a scholar, or a student of knowledge
,
except the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) and what is conducive to that
Sunan Ibn Majah 4112Hasan (Darussalam)
. So, the world means whatever in it distracts from what was mentioned in the exception in the hadith, and from obedience to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in a single word. It is that which is cursed, not the world itself, because the world, as some of the Salaf said, is "the farm of the Hereafter." Without the world, the Muslim would not be able to live happily in the Hereafter and look upon his Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He). That would be the happiest of his days in the Hereafter, such that when they look upon their Lord, they forget the bliss they were living in. So the world is the farm of the Hereafter; it is not cursed or blamed in itself, but rather for what may result from indulging in its pleasures, which diverts people from the obedience of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Therefore, it came in the aforementioned hadith:
When you enter into the inah transaction, hold the tails of oxen
Sunan Abi Dawud 3462Sahih (Al-Albani)
"O world,"
hold the tails of oxen, are pleased with agriculture
Sunan Abi Dawud 3462Sahih (Al-Albani)
; the result of that was that we turned away from jihad,
Narrated AbuUmamah: A man said: Messenger of Allah, allow tourism for me. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The tourism of my people is striving in the path of Allah, the Exalted.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2486Hasan (Al-Albani)
, and so on.
So we ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to make us understand our true religion with a correct understanding, in accordance with the way of our righteous Salaf, and to inspire us to act upon it within ourselves, so that this may be a glad tidings that we are proceeding and moving forward toward realizing the Muslim life and the Islamic society, and then the establishment of the Muslim state, in which all Muslims share in striving, if Allah wills.

The questioner : O Shaykh, O Shaykh.

Another questioner : ...

The Shaykh : ... please.

The questioner : All right, go ahead.
