The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The world is cursed, and everything in it is cursed, except the remembrance of Allah and what is connected to it; a scholar or a student.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
This world is cursed and what is in it is cursed, except the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) and what is conducive to that, or one who has knowledge or who acquires knowledge.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4112Hasan (Darussalam)
... just a moment ago, and the collection of hadiths makes it known that he is not one who curses ... ?

The Shaykh : The hadith is established without the addition:
a scholar or a student
; so it is a weak addition. As for the problem that the believer is not one who curses, it does not apply here at all; because the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
The believer is not the one who insults or curses.
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 1:29
does not mean that the believer does not curse one who deserves the curse, and a fortiori, it does not mean that the Messenger (peace be upon him), who, if he means to curse, places the curse in its proper place, does not curse; therefore, we find in more than one authentic hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved of cursing, and indeed he uttered it on more than one occasion. Among the most famous of these hadiths—for example, what comes to my mind now:
What al-Bukhari narrated in his *Sahih* from the hadith of Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): “That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the *murtajjilin*—may Allah forgive—cursed the men who imitate women and the women who imitate men.” This is a curse from him (peace be upon him).
And also his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Two are the types amongst the denizens of Hell, the one possessing whips like the tail of an ox and they flog people with their help. (The second one) the women who would be naked in spite of their being dressed, who are seduced (to wrong paths) and seduce others with their hair high like humps. These women would not get into Paradise and they would not perceive the odour of Paradise, although its frag- rance can be perceived from such and such distance (from great distance).
Sahih Muslim 2128b
, this is a hadith of Muslim.
And in a hadith of al-Tabarani from another chain:
the women who would be naked in spite of their being dressed, who are seduced (to wrong paths) and seduce others with their hair high like humps. These women would not get into Paradise and they would not perceive the odour of Paradise, although its frag- rance can be perceived from such and such distance (from great distance).
Sahih Muslim 2128b
.
And also his saying (peace be upon him) in many hadiths:
He who has intercourse with a woman through her anus is accursed
Bulugh al-Maram 8:56
.
Another hadith:
Cursed is he who slaughters for other than Allah, cursed is he who changes the boundaries of the earth.
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 44:29
.
And finally: the story is that a man complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about a neighbor of his, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to take out the contents of his house and place them on the side of the road. So the man did so, and when people passed by and saw this terrifying sight which they were not accustomed to, they said to him: What is the matter? So-and-so is my neighbor and he has wronged me. And what they did was nothing but say: May Allah fight him, may Allah curse him; and this alone was sufficient to deter this wrongdoer from his wrongdoing. So he hastened and went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: O Messenger of Allah, order my neighbor to return his belongings to his house; for the people have cursed me. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, those in the heavens have cursed you before those on the earth cursed you.
.
So the curse that is prohibited is not the absolute condemnation in cursing, but rather cursing one who does not deserve the curse. First, and second, this is a matter of etiquette: if a Muslim stumbles, he should not say “May Allah curse Satan,” but rather he should say: “I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the outcast,” for this is more painful for Iblis, whereas if he says: “May Allah curse him,” he will raise his head and say: I did this and that. This is an etiquette outside the scope of our previous topic. As for cursing one who deserves the curse, this is a permissible matter in the Shari'ah. And what the supplication of the Messenger (peace be upon him) in the *qunut* of calamity:
O Allah, curse Ra'il and Dawkhan.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:271
, and I do not know of other tribes he mentioned except that it is of this type, which is directed at those who deserve the curse from among the disbelievers or the wrongdoers. And sufficient for us is His saying (the Exalted):
Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.
[Hud 11:18]
.
This is what I have as an answer to that question.
