What is the authenticity of the hadith: “The world is cursed, and cursed is everything in it,” and what is its meaning?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message came to us from the Arab Republic of Yemen from the questioner: Haydar Ali Ahmad al-Qahwi. He says in it: I heard a hadith in the Friday sermon from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
The world is cursed, and cursed is whoever is in it, except a scholar or a student or the remembrance of Allah and what is connected to it.الدنيا ملعونة ملعون من فيها إلا عالماً أو متعلم أو ذكر الله وما والاه
We ask you, your eminence, to explain this hadith briefly, and is everything that Allah the Exalted created in this world cursed, or how is that?
Answer: There is no harm in the chain of narration of the hadith, and its wording is:
The world is cursed, and cursed is what is in it — what is it: by (min) cursed is what is in it — except the remembrance of Allah and what is connected to it, or a scholar or a student.الدنيا ملعونة ملعون ما فيها -ما هو: بـ (من) ملعون ما فيها- إلا ذكر الله وما والاه أو عالماً أو متعلماً
The meaning is: by “cursed” is meant “blameworthy,” meaning: the world is blameworthy. “Cursed” means “blameworthy.” From this is His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
as was the accursed tree [mentioned] in the Qur'anوَالشَّجَرَةَ الْمَلْعُونَةَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ
[Al-Isra: 60], meaning: the blameworthy one; because Allah said about it:
(43) Indeed, the tree of zaqqum (44) Is food for the sinful. (45) Like murky oil, it boils within bellies (46) Like the boiling of scalding water.
[Ad-Dukhan: 43-46], so He blamed it. Thus, “cursed” here means: blameworthy, meaning: the world is blameworthy; because most of those in it are occupied with it to the neglect of the Hereafter, and it diverts them from the Hereafter with its adornments and desires. So it is blameworthy, and blameworthy is what is in it, except the remembrance of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) by reciting the Qur’an, by glorification and declaring the oneness of Allah, by what is in the hearts of the remembrance of Allah and His magnification, and what is connected to that of obedience to Allah and leaving His sins. This is praiseworthy, not blameworthy.
And so are the believing men and believing women, for they are of those who are close to the remembrance of Allah; because they are the people of the remembrance of Allah, and those who establish the remembrance of Allah. And so are the scholars and students of knowledge, who are the special ones among the believers. So the believers, the Muslims, the scholars of the Shari’ah, and the students of the Shari’ah, all of them are outside of this blame.
So the world is blameworthy, and blameworthy is what is in it that diverts from Allah and the Hereafter. As for what is connected to the remembrance of Allah, and the Hereafter, of obedience to Allah and His Messenger, and leaving the sins of Allah, and so are the believers and believing women in it, then these are the servants of Allah, and they are the righteous among His servants, and they are the good among His servants, and they are those who are close to the remembrance of Allah, they establish it and act upon it, so they are not included in the blame.
And so are the scholars who teach the Shari’ah and call to Allah, and make the people see the truth.
And so are the students, the students of religious knowledge, all of these are not included in the blame, and they are from the special ones among the people of faith, the people of the remembrance of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
It has thus become clear that the remembrance of Allah , whether in prayer, fasting, or good speech such as tasbih, tahlil, reciting the Qur'an, and the like, is not included in this blame. Likewise, what is connected to this, namely the performance of worship by the servants of their Lord and their avoidance of His sins, is not included in this blame; for they are the people of obedience to Allah and the people of faith in Him. They are the allies of the remembrance of Allah . Likewise, what pertains to knowledge and action: the scholars and students of the Shari'ah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and the callers to it, are all among the special believers and are not included in this blame. And success is from Allah.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
