The questioner : She says: My husband travels and leaves us during the vacation without a provider; the boys and girls are being neglected. What is your advice to him and those like him?

The Shaykh : My advice to him and those like him is that staying with his family is better for him than traveling, if they are in need of his care, because if he stays, he has fulfilled an obligation that Allah has made obligatory upon him in His saying:
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَاراً وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ
[At-Tahrim 66:6]
. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it obligatory upon him in his saying:
and a man is a guardian of his family and is responsible for his charges الرجل راعٍ في أهله ومسئول عن رعيته
Sahih al-Bukhari 2751
. However, if they are continuing in their obedience, he may travel. But he should not delay too long from them; rather, it should be a month, half a month, or something similar, except in cases of dire necessity. Yes.
