Is it permissible to say "Where is Allah?"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: So now the legal text comes: Where is Allah? If He is not above, not below, not to the right, not to the left, not in front, not behind, not inside the world, and not outside it, and some of them delved into negation and denial of the divine attributes, saying: "He is neither connected to the world nor separate from it." They have abolished their Lord; they have ruled Him out of existence. That is: it is communism, it is atheism. Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
I have not left anything that brings you closer to Allah without commanding you to do it, and I have not left anything that distances you from Allah and brings you closer to the Fire without forbidding it.
.
Do you see what the position of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was regarding that question: Is it said that Allah is in a place? We said: It is not said that Allah is in a place. But now we ask: Is it said "Where is Allah"? The answer: Yes, and the difference is like the difference between the sky and the earth. That is because the statement that Allah is in a place, we know its invalidity by Shari'ah and by reason. But the phrase "Where is Allah" is established from the wording of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and from the wording of some of the Salaf, including the Companions and others. Recently, we were in a session that we wished you had been present for, because perhaps there were about a hundred people, and there occurred in it of good and knowledge what Allah willed. The occasion came to mention this hadith, so we recited it in its entirety. And now it is appropriate to mention its final part. This part is:
That a man from the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a vow to free a slave, so he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned that to him, and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have a slave girl who grazes my sheep at Uhud - in Medina - and one day the wolf attacked my sheep, and I am a human who becomes angry as humans become angry
meaning: The wolf attacked the sheep, and the shepherdess was present. So he says: She should have guarded her sheep from the wolf. When she informed him of the news, he became angry as humans become angry. He said:
So I struck her a strike
meaning: He slapped her on her cheek.
And upon me is the freeing of a slave
He says: As expiation for this mistake that occurred because he is a human who becomes angry as humans become angry. So he went and slapped the poor woman that slap, and she could not prevent the wolf from the sheep. And he wants expiation, and upon him is the freeing of a slave. So he asks the Messenger (peace be upon him): Is it sufficient for him to fulfill his vow to free this slave girl whom he struck with that strike? He said (peace be upon him):
Bring her.
; Bring her. When she came, he said to her (peace be upon him):
Where is Allah?
- here is the point - . She said: In the sky. He said to her:
Who am I?
. She said:
You are the Messenger of Allah.
. So he turned to her master and said to him:
Free her; for she is a believer.
. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) testified to this slave girl's faith when she answered the two questions directed by the Infallible (peace and blessings be upon him) from these two questions: Where is Allah? When he asked her this question and she answered that Allah is in the sky, he (peace be upon him) believed her and considered her answer as proof of her faith. Why? When the slave girl answered "in the sky," she answered with the answer she transmitted from that questioner, meaning that Allah exists, and she added to the answer that Allah exists in the sky. So she did not settle for saying that Allah exists, but she said: Allah exists in the sky.
