I am a committed young man, and praise be to Allah, but I suffer from severe defeatism, and I feel as if people’s eyes are watching me with disdain and mockery.

The Shaykh : As for if they hear the adhan while they are on the road and they arrive at the mosque, then they establish the prayer without an adhan. Yes.

The questioner : The honorable Shaykh says.

The Shaykh : No, there is no question.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : There is space, my brothers. There is space so that you do not play around. There is absolutely no oral question, because if we opened this door, we would remain in one question. Each person would bring up something. The one who has a question writes a paper.

The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I am a committed young man, and praise be to Allah, but I suffer from severe defeatism. And I feel as if people’s eyes are watching me with disdain and mockery, because my garment is short and my personality is that of a religious person.

The Shaykh : What kind of personality?

The questioner : Religious. So what is your advice to me? And what is your advice to those who disdain people like us?

The Shaykh : First: A person should be strong with his religion and noble by it. As long as he holds firmly to the religion of Allah with true adherence, no one should concern him. And let him know that no one among the people was safe, not even the Lord of the Worlds (Exalted and Majestic is He), for the sons of Adam denied Him and insulted Him. They said: “Allah is not able to bring back the dead.” And this is denial. And they said: “He has a son.” And this is insult. Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family remain safe from the people? Answer, my group. No. Neither he nor any of the other messengers. Every believing person will have an enemy from among the criminals. As He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the criminals وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ عَدُوّاً مِنْ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
[Al-Furqan 25:31]
. So as long as you, my brother, are upon the truth, take pride in the truth in which you are.
And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
[Al-Munafiqun 63:8]
Even if Satan says to you: “The people disdain you.” Say: “Praise be to Allah.” If they disdain me for my religion, then I am above them by this religion. As for the issue of the short garment, the short garment is not the measure. The measure is morals and following the Sunnah. As for the garment, the garments of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) reached the ankles. In fact, the hadith indicates the permissibility of a garment reaching the ankles, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not prescribe a punishment except for what was, what? Below the ankles. And as long as the matter is broad, and praise be to Allah. And I see people repelled by the garment that reaches the middle of the calf, or they do not accept advice from one whose garment is to the middle of his calf, because some people, and I seek refuge in Allah, do not accept advice from one whose garment is to the middle of his calf. So as long as the matter is broad, I keep people away from my appearance. And I enjoy what Allah has made lawful. And perhaps the less preferred is better! As for those who hate these people or mock their clothing, we look: Is his intention to hate what they are upon, or to hate them themselves? If his intention is to hate what they are upon of the truth, then it is dangerous that this be apostasy from the religion of Islam. And if he hates them themselves, then this does not become apostasy. But even so, he must restrain himself. And I give you an example: If a man who is a scholar, trusted by people, and beloved to them, makes his garment to the middle of his calf. And there is no need to exemplify with a specific person. And another who has no mention among people and is obscure makes his garment to the middle of his calf. Will the souls accept the first one more than the second, or are they on the same level? Answer, my group. The first is accepted more than the second. And perhaps they will follow his example as well. Therefore, a person must know his standing among people. And as long as the matter is broad, and praise be to Allah, he should not burden himself with what is not obligatory, and from which people are repelled and do not accept his advice to them. Yes.
