I am a young man afflicted with watching obscene satellite channels, and I sometimes leave off the prayer because of this matter. What is your advice to me? May Allah reward you with good.

The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I am a young man afflicted with watching obscene satellite channels.

The Shaykh : There is no power and no strength except with Allah.

The questioner : And I sometimes leave off the prayer because of this matter. What is your advice to me? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : My brother, my advice to you is: break this device that connects you to watching the satellite channels that distract you from the remembrance of Allah and from the prayer. Break it for the sake of Allah, and you will find, by Allah, the pleasure of faith and the sweetness of faith in your heart, more delicious than anything else.
And whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah replaces it with something better than it.
. Try it from tonight, and come to me after a week and see what happened to your heart. It will change if you do it for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. It is mentioned that Sulayman (peace be upon him) — one of the prophets — loved jihad in the path of Allah. For this reason, he swore an oath one night, saying: By Allah, I will surely go around to ninety women tonight, ninety, ninety women, each of whom will give birth to a boy who will fight in the path of Allah, out of his love for jihad. It was said to him: Say, "If Allah wills." He did not say, "If Allah wills." Why? To confirm his resolve. He had intercourse with ninety women that night, and one of them gave birth to a half-person. Allah is the Greatest! Half a person, until it became clear to him that the matter is the decree of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. And Allah said to His Prophet:
(23) And never say of anything, "Indeed, I will do that tomorrow," (24) Except [when adding], "If Allah wills."
[Al-Kahf 18:23-24]
. The marked horses were presented to him one day, and he enjoyed them and was preoccupied with them, with them. They say: he was preoccupied with them from the 'Asr prayer until the sun set. And they interpreted by this the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until the sun disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]." إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ
[Sad 38:32]
meaning: until the sun set and he did not pray 'Asr. Then he said:
Return them to me رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ
They returned them to him
and set about striking [their] legs and necks.
[Sad 38:33]
the legs بِالسُّوقِ
meaning: the plural of the leg, the leg of the horse. Meaning: he began to strike their legs and necks, taking revenge on himself because he was distracted by them from the prayer. He broke them, meaning he killed them or crippled them for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. So what did Allah reward him with? Allah rewarded him with the wind. Allah subjected the wind for him, running by His command, smoothly where He willed, with the strength of a storm, a storm with great strength. How much do storms reach now? You hear in hurricanes, how much? 2000 kilometers per hour, or 200 kilometers per hour, or somewhere in between. The wind that He subjected for Sulayman, Allah the Exalted said about it:
its morning [journey was that of] a month - and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month
[Saba 34:12]
meaning: in one day, the distance of two months, and by His command. They said: He would place the carpet and sit on the carpet, he and his retinue, then he would command the wind, and it would carry him on the carpet without any fear!
gently, wherever he directed,
[Sad 38:36]
. So, my brother, if you leave this device for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and break it, then if Allah wills, you will find the pleasure of faith and the sweetness of faith that neither you nor I can describe. So break it tonight, sleep a peaceful sleep, and pray Fajr. And if it is facilitated for you to stand in prayer at the end of the night, praise be to Allah. Yes.
