Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((... So hasten to the remembrance of Allah...)).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
So hasten to the remembrance of Allah
, - Listen, O man -
Hasten
meaning: come forward, or come running? The first or the second? The first, no, the first, you cannot come running. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If you hear the Iqamah, you must walk to the prayer (place) with tranquility and dignity, and do not hasten; and whatever portion of the prayer you get (along with the Imam) offer it, and complete afterwards whatever you missed.
Bulugh al-Maram 2:329
. So the intended meaning of speed here is being prompt in attending the remembrance of Allah. What is the remembrance of Allah? The remembrance of Allah is the sermon and the prayer; the sermon and the prayer are the remembrance of Allah because the sermon follows the call to prayer. And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:
Hasten to the remembrance of Allah
And because the sermon, O brothers, the sermon contains the remembrance of Allah, or does it not? It contains the remembrance of Allah, it contains praise and eulogy of Allah, and testimony to Him regarding the oneness of Allah, and testimony to the Prophet regarding the message, and admonition for the believers, so it is the remembrance of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
Therefore, it is not permissible for a person to speak during the Friday sermon, because he is commanded to come to this remembrance. How can he come and be distracted from it? It is not possible. So it is obligatory - Is Muhammad Nahar with us? - it is obligatory that we listen to this sermon as an obligation. If he speaks, listen to the description of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of him, he said:
The one who speaks while the imam is delivering the sermon on Friday is like a donkey carrying books
a donkey carrying books, what are the books? They are scientific books that the donkey carries. Do you think the donkey benefits from them? Answer. No, absolutely not. The donkey is the most dull of animals, dull, it does not benefit from the books on its back or those in front of it. This is like the one who speaks while the imam is delivering the sermon on Friday, like a donkey carrying books. Who were compared to a donkey carrying books? The Jews
The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like that of a donkey
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:5]
So: the one who speaks on Friday while the imam is delivering the sermon is similar to the Jews, similar to them. Which Muslim is pleased to be similar to the Jews? No one. If he speaks and another says to him: be silent. The second one has wasted his Friday, it is as if he did not pray Friday and he does not get the reward of Friday, even if he was in a state of ritual purity, perfumed, early to the mosque, humble and submissive. If he says to the one who speaks on Friday while the imam is delivering the sermon: be silent, his Friday is wasted. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If you say to your companions: ‘Be quiet’ on a Friday while the Imam is delivering the sermon, you have engaged in Laghw (idle talk or behaviour).
Sunan Ibn Majah 1110Sahih (Darussalam)
. If he gestures to him, meaning with his hand like this to silence him. Does he waste it or not? Does he not waste it? He does not waste it, because wasting is tied to speech, not to gesture. Good.
If someone says: Does this verse include the case where you hear a mu'adhdhin calling for Friday, but you want to pray in another mosque, and the mosque you want to pray in has not called for prayer? Is it obligatory for you to hasten when you hear the mu'adhdhin of the other mosque?
The answer: No, just as it is not obligatory for you to listen to his sermon because you do not want to pray with him. For example: if we assume that you want to pray Friday in the Grand Mosque here, and you hear a mu'adhdhin at the edge of the town calling for Friday for the attendance of his imam. Is it obligatory for you, when you hear him start the sermon, to be silent? Answer, everyone. It is not obligatory for you, even if you are hearing him completely, it is not obligatory for you, because you do not want to pray with him. So you are not commanded to go to him.
when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
Good. Is the prayer from the remembrance of Allah, brother? Stand up, is it from the remembrance of Allah? And what in it is from the remembrance of Allah?
The student: The prayer in language is supplication.

The Shaykh : No, we do not care about supplication, the takbir, seeking refuge in Allah, reciting the Qur'an, all of this is from the remembrance of Allah, okay? Sit down.
