Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Then he turned his back and strode on)
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Nazi'at: 22] (Turned his back) means: he turned away, stroding on with haste [Al-Nazi'at: 23] gathering the people,Meaning: assembling them and calling out to them in a loud voice so that it would be more effective in forbidding them and deterring them from what Musa (peace be upon him) wanted of them.
[Al-Nazi'at: 23-24]—and refuge is sought with Allah—He said to his people: I am your supreme Lord,Meaning: there is no one above Me; for "the Supreme" is a superlative form of "highness," so look at how this man became arrogant and claimed for himself what was not his in his saying: [Al-Nazi'at: 24] ? And he boasted of the rivers and the vast kingdom,In what he said to them: [Al-Zukhruf: 51-52] So what happened? Allah (Mighty and Majestic) drowned him with the very water he had boasted of, and Allah made the kingdom of Egypt the inheritance of the Children of Israel, whom he had oppressed,Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Nazi'at: 25] meaning that he was dealt with severely in the Hereafter and in this world, so he became a lesson in his time and a lesson after his time until the Day of Resurrection. Thus, everyone who reads the Book of Allah and reads what Allah did to Pharaoh takes that as a lesson and draws a moral from it.
And how did Allah destroy him despite this great kingdom, this tyranny, and this transgression? He became easier for Allah the Exalted than anything easy.
Allah the Exalted said:
Then he turned his back, striving.
Then he gathered [his people] and called out
And said, "I am your most exalted lord."
I am your most exalted lord."
O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? (52) Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear?
So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].
And how did Allah destroy him despite this great kingdom, this tyranny, and this transgression? He became easier for Allah the Exalted than anything easy.
