Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Asma'ah ibn Sharik (may Allah be pleased with him): (

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We return to reciting the hadith which our previous lesson ended with by explaining its first half, and we still have to comment on the other half. However, it is necessary to study it, or rather to recite it from the beginning, so that the benefit is complete for those who did not attend the previous lesson. As we said in the previous lesson, the hadith has a valid chain of narration, narrated by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) from Asma'ah ibn Sharik, who said: "I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the Bedouins came, a large number of people from here and there. The people fell silent and did not speak except them. They said: O Messenger of Allah, is there any hardship for us in such and such? In matters of people's affairs, which are not harmful. He said:
Servants of Allah! Allah has removed difficulty except in a case where a man slanders someone unjustly - that is the one who is in difficulty and destroyed.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:33
. They said: O Messenger of Allah, should we seek medical treatment? He said:
'Yes, servants of Allah,' he replied, 'you can make use of medical treatment. Allah Almighty did not create an illness but that He made a cure for it - except for one disease.'
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:33
. They said: What is it, O Messenger of Allah? He said:
Old age.
. They said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the best thing given to a person? He said:
Good character.
."
As we said, we explained the side or first half of this hadith in the previous lesson, and we still have to explain the rest of it. That is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Yes, O worshipers of Allah! Use remedies.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2038Sahih (Darussalam)
. This command from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to seek medical treatment was an answer to the question of the Bedouins, where they said: Should we seek medical treatment, O Messenger of Allah? It seems the reason for the Bedouins' question was that it is thrown into the minds of some people that seeking medical treatment contradicts reliance upon Allah. They, as Bedouins with no knowledge, it is not far-fetched that it may have occurred to them that seeking medical treatment for diseases contradicts reliance upon the Lord of Lords (Glorified and Exalted is He). But on the other hand, they know by their ignorance, so they do not want to rely on mere thoughts and whispers and respond to them. Therefore, they took the initiative to ask the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) about that, and they said: Should we seek medical treatment? He said:
Usama ibn Sharik said, "I was with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when some bedouins came. There were many people on all sides. The people were silent and no one spoke except them. They said, 'Messenger of Allah! We experience difficulty in such-and-such and such-and-such' and it was in things which are not harmful to people. He said, 'Servants of Allah! Allah has removed difficulty except in a case where a man slanders someone unjustly - that is the one who is in difficulty and destroyed.' They said, 'Messenger of Allah, can we make use of medical treatment?' 'Yes, servants of Allah,' he replied, 'you can make use of medical treatment. Allah Almighty did not create an illness but that He made a cure for it - except for one disease.' They asked, 'And what is that, Messenger of Allah?' 'Old age,' he replied. They said, 'Messenger of Allah, what is the best thing that a man can be given?' He replied, 'Good character'."
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:33
. The answer of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to the Bedouins' question "Should we seek medical treatment?" was an answer that applies and aligns with the Sunnah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in His creation, which states that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made a cause for every effect. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic), who created diseases by His power and wisdom, also made medicines for them, so that if the patient uses them, healing and treatment occur by the permission of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Therefore, when the Messenger (peace be upon him) answered the Bedouins that they should seek medical treatment, he indicated that seeking medical treatment does not contradict reliance upon Allah; because reliance upon Allah does not also contradict taking the means that Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) has legislated. We all know that provision is apportioned; provision is apportioned to every creature while it is still a fetus in its mother's womb, as came in the authentic hadiths, and especially the hadith of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, in which he said (peace be upon him):
The creation of one of you is gathered for forty days as a drop of fluid.
to the end of the hadith, in which it states that after this fetus passes through the stages mentioned in the hadith, meaning four months have passed, the angel comes to it and breathes the soul into it and asks its Lord: Will it be happy or wretched? Its provision and its lifespan. So its provision and its life, whether long or short, are written at that hour. With this writing, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made, as we mentioned earlier, a cause for everything. So even though provision is apportioned, one must strive for it, as He (Mighty and Majestic) said in the Noble Qur'an:
It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision - and to Him is the resurrection.
[Al-Mulk 67:15]
. So our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) did not say: Rely on the writing that was written for you, and you have not yet come into existence. Rather, He said:
It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes
[Al-Mulk 67:15]
to the end of the verse. Likewise, happiness and wretchedness are complete. So whoever wants to be happy, let him do the deeds of the people of happiness. Whoever wants to be wretched, let him do the deeds of the people of wretchedness. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So whoever is among the people of happiness, let him do the deeds of the people of happiness, and whoever is among the people of misery, let him do the deeds of the people of misery.
. And so, everything in this worldly life is connected to the causes that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made causes for effects that He has decreed and organized.
