Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them): (

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The completion of the hadith is:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was brought many garments
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 25:467
. This means numerous, and it appears they were spoils of war obtained by the Muslims in their jihad against the disbelievers. So the Messenger (peace be upon him) sent a gift from them: a garment to 'Umar, another to Usamah, and a third to 'Ali. As for 'Umar, he had heard what the Messenger (peace be upon him) said regarding the severe warning for whoever wears silk in this world, namely his saying:
Whoever wears it in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter
in many authentic hadiths. And here, in this story where 'Umar offered to the Messenger to buy that garment, 'Umar heard directly from the Messenger: that it is not worn except by one who has no share in the Hereafter. Therefore, when the garment came to him from the Messenger (peace be upon him) as a gift, he was surprised, and so he said:
Messenger of Allah! You have sent this to me when I heard you say what you said about it.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 349
meaning:
This is only worn by one who has no share in the Hereafter.
Sunan Ibn Majah 3591Sahih (Darussalam)
How did you send it to me so that I wear it, when you have said this severe warning?! So the Messenger (peace be upon him) made him understand that sending it to him was not for him to enjoy wearing it himself, but rather to benefit from it in some way, which he mentioned here (peace be upon him), saying:
Sell it تبيعها
This is a way to benefit,
or take care of your needs with it
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 349
: What is your need, for example? A man wants to give a gift to his wife, and a silk garment comes to him. It is forbidden for him, but it is lawful for his wife. So, if a gift comes to him, he sends it as a gift to his wife, thereby fulfilling a lawful need in this way. No, this was not from before, or it was not of such abundance that he could offer a silk gift to his wife. And when silk is mentioned, naturally, it does not occur to the minds of the women present that it is written "artificial silk" or "local silk." This usually has its value in every era. So, if 'Umar did not have the financial means to offer such a gift to his wife, then in that case, he sells it and takes its price, and he disposes of this price as the internal or household interest requires.
