The Shaykh : And in the hadith of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), that whoever wears it, or that it is only worn by
This is only worn by one who has no share in the Hereafter. إنما يلبسه من لا خلاق له في الآخرة
Sunan Ibn Majah 3591Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning: one who has no share in the Hereafter. For this reason, some scholars held that if a person wears silk in this world, he will not enter Paradise, may Allah protect us from that, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
no share in the Hereafter لا خلاق له في الآخرة
Sunan Ibn Majah 3591Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning: he has no share. And he also said:
Whoever wears it in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter. من لبسه في الدنيا لم يلبسه في الآخرة
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5305Sahih (Darussalam)
and this means that he will not enter Paradise. And some scholars said: Rather, he will enter it, but he will not enjoy wearing silk, even though the clothing of the people of Paradise is silk, and he will only wear something else. And this is if he does not repent; if he repents from his sins, then Allah forgives the repentant person his sin, as the Exalted said:
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins قل يا عبادي الذين أسرفوا على أنفسهم لا تقنطوا من رحمة الله إن الله يغفر الذنوب جميعًا
[Az-Zumar 39:53]
And this applies to natural silk that comes from silkworms. As for artificial silk, it is not forbidden, but it is not befitting for a man to wear it because of the effeminacy and the lowering of the status of a man, who should be rough and wear the clothes of manliness, not the clothes of softness. But the benefit of our saying that artificial silk is not forbidden is that if he wears a cap of artificial silk or trousers that are not visible, there is no harm in it. As for the shirt and the ghutrah, it is not befitting, even if it is lawful, for a man to wear it because of the effeminacy and degradation, and because if the ignorant person sees him, he will think it is natural silk and think that it is permissible for men, and he may perhaps imitate him. And safety is safer for the person. And Allah knows best.
