Benefits of the Hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father): (Umar found a silk garment and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said, "Buy this and wear it on Friday or when delegations come to you...")

The Shaykh : In that case, we benefit from the hadiths of this chapter by mentioning two matters. The first matter is that it is not permissible for men to wear silk clothing, even though the previous hadith permitted using a small amount of silk, such as a patch, to mend a garment. The second matter we benefit from in this hadith is that it is recommended (sunnah) for men to adorn themselves, either to receive delegations and guests, or specifically for Friday. Many hadiths have come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraging the Muslim, when the day of Friday arrives, to go to the mosque wearing his best clothing, because it is a day of celebration. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) linked this in some hadiths to: . In fact, there is a specific hadith in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . This contains an encouragement for the Muslim who comes on Friday to adorn himself for Friday with two specific garments for the Friday prayer, other than his work clothes. We observe that most of the worshippers on Friday have neglected this sunnah, abandoned it, and left it for another celebration, 'Id al-Fitr and 'Id al-Adha. They have reversed the issue from a certain angle that I will mention. There is no doubt that 'Id al-Fitr and 'Id al-Adha are annual celebrations for Muslims, and it is also good (mustahabb) for the Muslim to adorn himself for each of them with whatever clothing and perfume he has available. However, we do not find in the Sunnah, despite its breadth, a single authentic hadith encouraging men to adopt specific clothing for the day of 'Id, or at least to wear the best they have. There is no hadith at all regarding the rights of the 'Id prayer, whether 'Id al-Fitr or 'Id al-Adha. Meanwhile, there are many, many hadiths regarding Friday. So people have reversed the subject. The adornment for which many hadiths exist for Friday has become forgotten by most of them, while the adornment for which not a single hadith has come, which is adornment for the 'Id, they have made it as if it is an obligatory matter that must be done. This does not mean, as I hinted at earlier, that adornment for the 'Id is not prescribed. But we must mention the principle: the permissibility of adornment for the 'Id was analogized by the scholars to the permissibility of adornment for Friday, because they found many hadiths in it. They said, since Friday has a gathering, and since the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the Muslim to wear his best clothes and use his best perfume, likewise the day of 'Id has this gathering. By analogizing the gathering of the 'Id to the gathering of Friday, they said that this adornment for the two 'Ids is permissible. So today, we have reversed it; at the least, we should maintain both adornments, but with greater emphasis on the adornment for Friday, because of the many hadiths in it, including this hadith in which Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) offered to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to buy that garment to wear on Friday. So maintaining the adornment on Friday is more emphasized than maintaining the adornment on the day of 'Id.
