What advice do you have for those who spend most of the daytime in Ramadan sleeping and with little remembrance of Allah? We ask you to guide these people to the correct action, and may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Buraydah.

The questioner : Your Eminence. What advice do you have for those who spend most of the daytime in Ramadan sleeping and with little remembrance of Allah? We ask you to guide these people to the correct action, and may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Yes. I direct all my brothers, and I begin with myself: that we make use of this blessed month. I ask Allah to grant us and you the ability to fast and stand in prayer in it with faith and seeking reward. We should make use of it with righteous deeds, such as remembrance of Allah, recitation of the Qur'an, prayer, charity, dutifulness to parents, maintaining family ties, and good character, because this is a month that may not return to a person a second time. As for those who stay up at night and sleep during the day, they are among the most losing of people, because they wasted the night in what is of no benefit, or perhaps in harm. And they also wasted the day with excessive sleep. They may even sleep through the midday prayer and the afternoon prayer. So my advice to my Muslim brothers is to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and to seize the opportunities of the seasons, for by Allah, they are more deserving of being seized than the seasons of buying and selling. Yes.
