Explanation of the hadith of Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: “It is not permissible for anyone to boycott his brother for more than three nights. When they meet, this one turns away and that one turns away, and the best of the two is the one who begins with the greeting of peace.”

The Shaykh : Then the author brings another hadith, which explains who is the better of the two who are boycotting each other. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from the hadith of Ata ibn Yazid al-Laythi, then al-Jundaci, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 399.
This final phrase contains this legal ruling: if two people boycott each other and the boycott reaches the point where, when they meet, this one turns away from that one and that one turns away from this one out of hatred and resentment, this is forbidden after three nights. So who is the better of these two who are boycotting each other? He said: the one who begins with the greeting of peace to his brother. This is the best, because he strives against his own self and compels it to resume contact with his brother anew, and he suppresses his own ego and does not seek revenge for it after the three nights. So he (peace be upon him) said in describing the boycott:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1932Sahih (Darussalam).
