If the festival coincides with Friday, what is the ruling?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: If the festival coincides with Friday, what should one do?

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : If the festival coincides with Friday, what is the ruling?

The Shaykh : The ruling is that the Muslims have two festivals: the weekly festival and the festival of Ramadan. Whoever attends the prayer with the imam is excused from attending the Friday prayer, but he must pray the midday prayer. As for the imam, it is obligatory for him to lead the Friday prayer. The other mosques do not establish the midday prayer; that is, we do not tell the other mosques: "Call the adhan for the midday prayer and pray the midday prayer." Rather, we say: "Attend the main mosque." Whoever does not attend [the Friday prayer] but has attended the festival prayer with the imam should pray in his house, his farm, or something similar. The important point is that on the day of the festival, Friday prayer is established only in the Friday mosques. Whoever attends it is doing what is best. Whoever does not attend it does not commit a sin if he has attended the festival prayer. However, it is obligatory for whoever does not attend it to pray what? He must pray the midday prayer, because it is an obligatory prayer for its time and it is necessary.
That is all.

The questioner : May Allah reward our father with the best reward, benefit us all with what we have heard, and bless his life. And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and messenger Muhammad.
