The ruling on the Friday prayer if it falls on a day of festival.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Second: This year, the Festival of Breaking the Fast (‘Id al-Fitr) coincided with the weekly festival, meaning that ‘Id al-Fitr and the weekly festival fell on the same day, Friday. What is the position of the Muslims regarding the two prayers, the two festival prayers? Do they suffice with the festival prayer in place of Friday, or with Friday in place of the festival? None of this is to be done, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when the festival coincided with Friday, would pray the festival at its time and Friday at its time, as established in Sahih Muslim. Based on this, it is obligatory to establish the festival prayer at its time, at the beginning of the day, and it is obligatory to establish Friday at its time, after the sun passes its zenith. However, a dispensation is granted to the one who attended the festival prayer with the imam so that he does not attend the Friday prayer. But he must pray the midday prayer (Zuhr) without the congregational prayer being established in the mosques, because it is not possible to establish the congregational prayer in the mosques and congregational mosques while they are praying Friday. But the one who attended the festival prayer prays at his home, for example, in his rest area with his colleagues, praying only the midday prayer. However, their attendance at Friday is better. For this reason, it is obligatory for the imam who leads the people in the festival prayer to pray Friday, even though he attended the festival prayer. But it is obligatory that this religious observance, the Friday prayer, be established.
