What is the ruling on praying behind the Mu'tazilah of our time?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, is it permissible to pray behind the Mu'tazilah if the ma'mum is aware of their belief?

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : Praying behind a Mu'tazili if the ma'mum is aware of it?

The Shaykh : Are you speaking of the Mu'tazilah of the early period or the later period?

The questioner : The later period.

The Shaykh : The later period. Who are the Mu'tazilah of the later period in the place you mean?

The questioner : Some of the Hanafis.

The Shaykh : These are not Mu'tazilah; these are Maturidiyyah.

The questioner : They have some Mu'tazilah beliefs, at the very least.

The Shaykh : So the nature of your question changes between being a Mu'tazili and having Mu'tazilah beliefs, and the ruling differs accordingly. A man who has Mu'tazilah beliefs is not called a Mu'tazili; he may be from the people of the Sunnah and yet have Mu'tazilah beliefs.

The questioner : But this is not a later matter; the later Mu'tazilah cannot do this.

The Shaykh : Did you understand my answer? It is possible for someone to be from the people of the Sunnah and have Mu'tazilah beliefs according to some of the people of the Sunnah. For example, among the hadiths of the Hour in private and public gatherings among students of knowledge, there is the hadith:
Allah created Adam in His picture خلق الله آدم على صورة الرحمن
Sahih al-Bukhari 6227
They narrate from some of the imams that he said: "Whoever says something contrary to this hadith is a Jahmi", and Ibn Khuzaymah is known to be one of the imams of hadith and the Sunnah.
