Explaining the Disagreement Between the People of the Sunnah and the Mu'tazilah Regarding the Noble Qur'an

The Shaykh : I have given you some of the previous examples, and now I want to give another example of its gravity. I think many of you know the disagreement between the Mu'tazilah and the People of the Sunnah in general regarding the Noble Qur'an. The Mu'tazilah say: It is created. The People of the Sunnah say: It is ancient and eternal. Why? Because the People of the Sunnah say: The Qur'an is the speech of Allah; it is an attribute of the attributes of Allah. So Allah is eternal in His attributes. Therefore, the attribute of speech is not created, but rather it is an eternal attribute of Allah, ancient like His Essence. The Mu'tazilah say: No, the speech of Allah, which is the Qur'an, is created, and Allah did not speak. How is this when Allah says: ? Allah affirmed for Himself speech in this verse and in other verses; He said such and such, and He said and He spoke; all of this indicates that Allah has the attribute of speech. The Mu'tazilah denied all these texts. Did they deny them in the sense that they said: It is not in the Qur'an ? No, but they denied them by interpreting them; that is, by denying their meanings. Why? The Mu'tazilah said: If we say that Allah speaks, then the human being speaks; so we have likened Allah to the human being and [Ash-Shuraa 42:11]. So it is not permissible to say that Allah speaks. So what is this speech that is before us, which we call the speech of Allah? He said: This speech is, imagine things, this is speech that Allah recorded in the Preserved Tablet, then Gabriel conveyed it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
So, who spoke it? It must be spoken by someone; either Gabriel when he revealed it, or—also—Gabriel imagined this speech, he imagined it in the heart of the Messenger (peace be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah expressed it to the Companions. So the meaning of the Mu'tazilah's statement: This Qur'an is not the speech of Allah, is that someone other than Allah spoke it. In that case, they joined those who said: It is nothing but the word of man. Who are those who said: The word of man? They are the polytheists who lied to the Messenger (peace be upon him) in his saying: This is the speech of Allah, He revealed it to me. So they lied to him and said: No, this is his speech. So the Mu'tazilah, who believe in Allah and His Messenger and that the religion of Islam is based on the Qur'an and the Hadith, meet with the evil of interpretation with these disbelievers who attributed the Qur'an to being the word of man. And every person knows that disbelief is realized whether it is said: This Qur'an is the word of man, or the word of the angels; all of it is disbelief. Because the truth is that it is the speech of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). So what led the Mu'tazilah to this deep abyss where they denied that the Noble Qur'an is the speech of Allah? And so they said: It is created?! It is from the virtues of interpretation?! That is: It is from the evil of interpretation that it led them to deny that Allah has speech at all, and consequently they denied that this Qur'an is the speech of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). So what is it? It is, they say, the word of Muhammad, or the word of Gabriel, or the word of many of the creations of Allah. The important thing is that they explicitly say: It is not the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic)!!
The reason is that they did not notice the difference between the existence of Allah and His attributes, which is a real existence that contradicts the existence of the created and its attributes in a real contradiction. They did not notice this. So they said: As soon as the created shares with the Creator in one of the attributes, such as speech, it follows from that that we liken Allah to His creation or liken the creation to its Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He). And the answer is:[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]. Allah speaks, but His speech is not like our speech, just as His Essence is not like our essence, and all His attributes are not like our attributes.
Then Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) created in this era a sign in which there is a practical refutation of the Mu'tazilah and their like. That is because the Mu'tazilah say: If we say that Allah speaks, it means He has two lips, it means He has a tongue, it means He has teeth, it means He has gums, it means, it means, and so on. All of this is from the narrowness of their pasture and the shortness of their thinking. Their minds did not expand to accept that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is a real thing that contradicts these realities that Allah created. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created in this era, among what He created, a deaf and mute machine, which is the "radio." We hear the "radio" speak in clear Arabic speech. It has no lip, no teeth, no palate, no, no, nothing. This is, in fact, one of the greatest signs of Allah in this era to refute the interpreters—that is, the deniers—who imagine that it is necessary for Allah to be like us in His speech. But He is not like us. So we denied His speech... So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created the "radio" to speak without what? That is: a machine, that is: a tongue, from what is known to us that it is the mute—for example—why does he not speak? There is a deficiency there, of course—I am not a doctor—there is a deficiency in his physical composition, so he was unable to speak. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created the "radio" to speak in the clearest speech in any language of the world, and it does not have any of the organs of the human being by which he usually speaks.
If Allah created an inanimate machine that speaks without these means; is Allah (Mighty and Majestic) not able to speak without a tongue, two lips, teeth, and? Yes; He is fully able to do that... So look, then, how the Mu'tazilah's minds were too narrow to think and know that it is not necessary for Allah, when He describes Himself as speaking, to be like the human being with the organs of the human being by which he speaks. This is a sign of the signs of Allah, the "radio," as we said.
In short: This interpretation that many of the later scholars and a few of the earlier scholars adopted was the cause of the deviation of great scholars from the path of the Sunnah and the Companions, who believed in everything by which Allah (Mighty and Majestic) described Himself, with the condition of affirmation and transcendence;[Ash-Shuraa 42:11].
And Allah spoke to Musa directly
وَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسَى تَكْلِيمًاAnd Allah spoke to Musa directly
وَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسَى تَكْلِيمًاThere is nothing like unto Him
لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌSo, who spoke it?
