What is your opinion of the statement of some people that there is no explicit indication in the statement: (The first thing Allah created was the pen) that it was the first of the created things, just as if it were said:

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : But Shaykh, there is a difficulty regarding this hadith:
Some people say: that there is no explicit indication in it, and they interpret it or say that it is possible that it is by implication
The first thing Allah created was the pen. He said to it: Write.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4700Sahih (Al-Albani)
meaning just as if one says: The first thing so-and-so did upon entering the door, he said to him: Do such-and-such, he says: there is no indication in it!

The Shaykh : Look, look, now you have changed the phrase: The first thing he entered, he said. The hadith is not like this:
The first thing the pen was created
Complete it:
the first of what Allah created was the Pen
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3319Sahih (Darussalam)
A complete sentence,
so he said فقال
A resumption of speech, but if he said: He said, then the doubt you are mentioning is refuted.

The questioner : Meaning, does the conjunction of the fa' not become a conjunction here?

The Shaykh : And why?!
What is the apparent meaning? We return to the rules: What is the apparent meaning of his statement (peace and blessings be upon him):
The first thing Allah created was the pen, and He said to it: Write, it said: What shall I write? He said: Write what is to be until the Day of Resurrection
: All are sentences connected to one another, and suppose that the issue has a possibility that he says: that water was the first created thing or the Throne was the first created thing, is there no possibility?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : There is a possibility, so which of the two possibilities is stronger such that it makes the evidence weaker?!
There is no doubt that this one which does not have the word: First, is weaker, and this one is stronger, and Allah knows best.

The questioner : He says, O Shaykh, in the Sunnah, meaning it supports what you have gone to, but I wanted to know the response to something like this, and it is mentioned in the book *The Sunnah*:
The first thing Allah created was the pen, and He said to it: Write
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 25:968
So the addition of "thing" perhaps strengthens this meaning, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is so, but those who have a doubt distinguish between the word: He said, and this is the view of Ibn Taymiyyah, and: Then he said, and therefore I rambled around this word in terms of establishing the correctness of the narration in it, because if he said: The first thing Allah created was the pen, he said, it would be: He said is the news for this sentence, while the news here is the pen,
the first of what Allah created was the Pen
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3319Sahih (Darussalam)

The questioner : If you please, O Shaykh.
Another questioner: A moment, the same question.

The questioner : Yes, the same question.

The Shaykh : Please go ahead.
