Is the Throne the first of the created things, or the Pen?

The questioner : Delving into the issue of whether the Pen was created first or... is there a Salafi benefit behind that?

The Shaykh : Many things have been introduced by the theologians into the matters of creed, and there is no need for them, no need for them. They delved into many things, including what I mentioned. Is the Throne first, or the Pen first? Yes? And the correct view is what Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in al-Nuniyyah, where he said:
"And people differ regarding the Pen with which *** the decree was written by the Judge
Whether it was before the Throne or after it *** There are two statements according to Abu al-'Ala' al-Hamdani
And the truth is that the Throne was before, for it *** had pillars before the writing.
And this is the truth: the Throne is the first of the created things that we know of. The Pen The meaning is that Allah, from the moment He created it, commanded it to write. He did not create a Pen without it writing, but He created the Pen and then commanded it to write. Did you understand? Yes.
